APPOINTMENT OF PRINCIPAL FOR COLAISTE NA HINSE

I warmly welcome the appointment today (Wednesday, December 05) of Anne-Marie McCarrick as Principal for Meath VEC’s new Colaiste na Hinse Secondary School for Laytown.

With this appointment, Meath VEC can now press on with overseeing the development of the necessary structure and works required in the setting up of what will be a world-class college. I wish the Principal well in her new position, especially as she is also a Sligo woman like my wife!

The new Secondary School will open in September 2008 and will be situated alongside the temporary Scoil Oilibheir Naofa primary school on the Laytown education campus. The college will be located in this accommodation for a three year period until the permanent Coláiste na hInse is completed for September 2011.

The Department of Education gave its approval to County Meath VEC earlier in the summer to commence planning for the new college. This planning process is now fully underway. Some 66 children children enrolled to the school last Saturday. These numbers have exceeded all expectations.

Coláiste na hInse will cater for students from Mornington, Bettystown, Laytown, Julianstown, Donacarney and Stamullen. I will continue to work closely alongside Meath VEC Chief Executive Peter Kierans concerning all aspects of the development of this new school.
