PUBLIC WATER SUPPLY IN NORTH MEATH
Following concerns raised to me by members of the public about the quality of the water supply in Moynalty and Ballinaclose, I have contacted Meath County Council in relation to this serious matter. The Council tell me that they have either taken or are in the process of taking the necessary action to ensure compliance with Water Regulations on all 8 water supplies under their control.
I have been informed that in July 2007, a Nitrate Removal System was installed at the Water Treatment Plant at Moynalty which has significantly reduced the concentration of Nitrate in the water supply to the village. According to the Council, all results from monitoring the supply since this installation have been in compliance with the Regulations.
In Ballinaclose, a Chlorine Booster station will be installed on the Ballinaclose system during 2008 under Meath County Council’s Small Schemes Investment Programme to enhance the current mode of disinfection of the water supply. This will help eliminate any threat of future contamination.
Meath County Council say that their results from monitoring the water supply in 2007 reveal no exceedance of the microbiological standards as prescribed by the regulations and that public water is safe to drink in Moynalty and Ballinaclose.
I will continue to monitor the situation and ensure that appropriate measures are taken to ensure that the water quality is to the highest possible standard.
