SUBMISSION ON SPEED LIMITS
I have made a submission to Meath County Council on speed limits in the County following a review by the Council. I made the submission following concerns raised to me by residents for road safety.
In my submission I have requested that a speed limit of 60 km/ph be established on all roads where there is ribbon development on either side of a road (i.e more than 5houses). This would include areas such as the Beymore Road, Colpe, and also Keenogue, Duleek.
I have also made an observation concerning the speed limit on the Stamullen – Gormanston Road (L1617). I have requested that a speed limit of 50 km/hr be introduced from the junction of the Julianstown / Balscadden road (L1616) to a point on the L1617 past the entrance of Gormanston College and sports pitches. Students regularly cross the road here to access the sports fields so safety has to be a priority.
The Road Safety Officer has told me that the Council will study all submissions received from the public if they have been unhappy with any speed limit decision.
I have been in contact with the Road Safety Officer and Meath County Council in recent times in relation to a number of safety and traffic concerns in Meath East.I look forward to continuing to work alongside Meath County Council and residents to address these road issues.
Road safety is a major issue in the constituency of Meath East and tragic road deaths have affected many families in the area. I welcome the speed limit review undertaken by Meath County Council to improve safety and reduce road deaths in the County.
I am calling on a long-term coordinated approach between Meath County Council and the Gardai to improve road safety in Meath.

Before asking for a speed limit reduction, I'd like to see the current limitation to be respected. Looks like many drivers still think speed limit signs are in mph.
