REVIEW OF SITE FOR SLANE PLAYGROUND

I have asked Meath County Council to review their decision to designate Crann Dara Brae as the preferred location for the new playground for the village.

I have received numerous representations from residents in Crann Dara Brae and also, Abbey View, who are concerned about the siting of the playground at the entrance to Crann Dara Brae. I have written to the Area Engineer, asking him to review the decision and look at the possibility of having the playground instead at Wheatfield, which was the original preferred location.

I have previously met with residents at Wheatfield and also the local GAA and Soccer Club who use the sports facility there and they are unanimous in their support for a playground on the site. There is plenty of parking, residents are in favour and I couldn’t think of a better location as the site is also close to the Garda Station.

I would like to call on Meath County Council to revisit the issue, give the original location of Wheatfield serious consideration and to liaise with the local Gardai in relation to any possible problems regarding anti-social behaviour.

I take this opportunity to congratulate the Council and local Councillors for their initiative in relation to playgrounds which we are much-needed in our communities.
